| | ![]() | | | What is the difference between AKC and CKC and "Designer Breed" puppies?
Our puppies can come with either AKC papers, or CKC papers, or in some cases, both AKC and CKC papers.
AKC is the oldest registry that some of our brood dogs belong to. The sponsor the more prestigious 'dog shows' that you hear about. AKC is dedicated to preserving the older more standard "Purebred" specimans of the traditional breeds that they officially recognize. AKC only accepts their own registration papers. AKC does not recognize CKC registration papers.
CKC is a newer registry that some of our brood dogs belong to. CKC is gaining popularity with many breeders due to the fact that their registration fees are considerably less than AKC. If a dog had AKC papers, CKC will accept those papers, add the animal to their registry as purebred, and for a small fee will issue CKC papers on the animal.
A dog may be registered with either registry, or in both registries. It is up to the breeder to choose how they register a puppy.
"Designer Breed" is a term used to describe an intentional cross between two or more different 'purebred' dogs. For example, a Cocker Spaniel crossed with a Poodle creates a designer breed called a Cockapoo.
AKC does not recognize any designer breed dogs. CKC, however will accept and register intentionally crossbred designer breed puppies as a separate distinct breed of its own.
Our Designer Breeds are probably the most popular of all of our dog breeds. When you combine the excellence of one breed with the superior qualities of another breed, you can't help but get perfection.
